Cross-Selling

Cross-selling is a sales strategy where you suggest complementary products or services to someone who is already buying something. If a customer buys a laptop, cross-selling might suggest a laptop bag or a mouse. For online businesses, it’s one of the most effective ways to increase average order value without acquiring new customers.

Cross-Selling vs Upselling

  • Cross-sell: “You might also need this.” A related but separate product that complements the purchase.
  • Upsell: “Want the better version?” An upgrade to what they’re already buying.

Where Cross-Selling Works

  • Product pages (“Frequently bought together” or “Complete the look”)
  • Shopping cart before checkout
  • Post-purchase thank-you pages
  • Email follow-ups after a purchase

Cross-Selling in WordPress with WooCommerce

WooCommerce has a built-in cross-sells feature. When editing a product, go to the Linked Products tab and add cross-sells. These appear in the shopping cart as recommendations. CartFlows and other funnel builders also support cross-sell pages in the checkout flow.
